A QUIET RETREAT SET AT THE FOOT OF THE LANGDALE VALLEY

Carr Crag Pavilion is one of two rather special, architect-designed semi-detached retreats located in Skelwith Bridge, at the foot of the Langdale Valley. Set in an acre of woodland gardens, awash with bluebells in the Spring and visited by a variety of wildlife including deer, rabbits, woodpeckers.

Enjoy a riverside walk along the Brathay to Elterwater and Loughrigg Tarn, stopping off for refreshments at the renowned Chesters By The River for tea and cake, or something stronger at the nearby Talbot Bar.

Just 3 miles from Ambleside and Grasmere, the location is ideal for enjoying some of the finest walking that the area has to offer and the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of the Lakes.

Everything was stress free from check in to check out. We really enjoyed our stay. The place was lovely, had everything you could possibly need and clean and tidy. The house/grounds/garden are lovely and in a wonderful location (easy to locate and parking is great) Would recommend. Thanks, Rik and family Ps. We were visited by Deer also :)

The Pavillion was a beautiful place to stay on our week holiday walking in The Lakes. Very cosy and warm, a perfect house to return to after a days hiking. Within a short drive to Ambleside for us it was a great location slightly away from the crowds. The garden was fantastic for the dog and we even saw a few deer in the mornings. We’d definitely come back again.

this was our first trip to the lakes where we've stopped over. the location is perfect for anyone wanting to do walks/hikes straight from the front door. it's close enough to Ambleside if you need to eat out or do a food shop but far enough away to feel out the way and less crowds the host was always responsive and it won't be the last time we stop in one of their properties. we'd definitely come back again

Lovely place for a getaway. Slightly secluded so great for peace and quiet. There is a great breakfast place by the river (5 mins walk away). Easy access to Ambleside, Windermere etc. Very comfortable house. We were two adults and two young children and the space was just right. Great gardens and ground surrounding. Very responsive management team. Would highly recommend. Thanks

A lovely and quiet spot, with a pub within walking distance. The gardens are beautiful, and my dog loved running around the great space. The house was clean, with everything you could need and also thoughtful touches like boardgames and books. A short drive from great walks, with plenty options from the door too!

We loved our stay in this beautiful part of the world. The cottage was clean tidy and in a perfect location for us - near one of our favourite cafes and several hikes. The garden is breathtaking and we had deer one morning. The space is small and worked well for our little family. Puzzles and Lego much appreciated by our toddler.

Had a fantastic time. The place is lovely! Especially the gardens and surrounding woodland. Shared the garden with a couple of deer most nights/mornings. Did struggle to find it based off the provided postcode, but other than that, no problem at all.

Had an amazing stay. The grounds are so well kept we saw deer most nights. Was very impressed with the games and toys for toddlers which was very handy during rainy afternoons. The location is perfect. The walks to Elterwater were great with a toddler and dog , again in all weathers. Highly recommend The talbot and Chesters for food. Gorgeous place , cosy , comfortable and clean.

We had such a fantastic time staying at Carr Crag Pavilion!! Fantastic walks right on your doorstep and only a short drive to a good few peaks!! Absolutely stunning! The location was amazing. Very well situated. Good home base to go on various day trips all over the Lakes without having to lose too much time travelling. The cottage is well equipped with all the basics you might need. The gardens around the cottage are beautiful and we ended up spending time just sitting on the couch looking out the open doors at the various colours in front of us. Worth it through and through and hope to visit again.

Lovely 3 night stay at the Carr Crag accommodation. Exactly as described, so peaceful and an amazing view into the woods. Comfy beds, the cottage was always warm, we did light the wood fire but had to purchase matches! Beautiful family friendly walk to Elterwater, Talbot inn over the road was great for dinner, we ate there twice. Also Chester’s by the river for breakfast was a two minute walk. Highly recommend Michelle’s property

On arrival we were very impressed with the house and surrounding. Easy access into the property and everything was made easy to understand, a very nice treat was left on dinning room table. House was nice and warm and clean. Bedroom was clean, we did find the bed a little uncomfortable, but may be a personal thing. Kitchen was well equipped and very clean. Location to the property was perfect for the walks we wanted to do and completed a 11.5 mile circular walk include the cathedral caves, elterwater and Grasmere which all had a nice pub to relax on each stage of the walk. I would recommend this property to anyone who wishes to visit that park of the lakes, There was one small issue but was only because we had a really long walk and just wanted to put are feet up and watch a programme on TV but may have been issue at time but WiFi kept on dropping out, (like I say a very small issue at time,) Would definitely go back as house and location are prefect. 10/10 thank youx

Overall, it is a lovely place to stay (would give 4.5 stars if that was possible). The accommodation is spacious and clean, and the furniture and beds are very comfortable. Kitchen has all the necessary appliances, pans, and utensils, and was nice to have coffee, sugar, and milk waiting upon our arrival. Lovely garden/grounds and outside seating. And visiting deer! The location is wonderful, right in the countryside but no so off the beaten track that getting there is a hassle. It’s about 45mins walk from Ambleside which was fine for us. I would recommend taking the route that leads through Bog Lane; it’s a little longer but otherwise you’ll be walking down a busy – but often narrow - road mostly on said road. Note there is zero phone signal in the house; we found this a blessing, but others may not (there is signal in the parking area). We would definitely stay again. There were a few things to be aware of though. The way the heating is arranged and controlled, and lack of heated towel rack, means there isn’t anywhere to effectively dry wet (as opposed to damp) clothes. We were caught in a downpour so were soaked, and drying clothes from that state was tricky. Also, did feel a little nickel-and-dimed in places given it is not a cheap place. Not the end of the world, but only being provided with two toilet rolls and only enough wood for one evening’s fire (with no kindling/lighters or matches) was frustrating.

We really enjoyed our stay at Carr Crag. Lots of good walks on your doorstep including Loughrigg Tarn and Fell. Chester’s, across the road, is great for coffee and sourdough bread (but watch kids with the road…it’s a blind corner and they don’t spare the horses!). The Brittania at Elterwater (30 min walk) is worth the effort for food and beer but Talbot will do in an emergency. The cottage is well appointed. Lovely shower and comfy beds. Broadband is a bit tardy but to be expected. Overall a good spot!

The most beautiful setting in the lakes!! We enjoyed a gorgeous long weekend as a family of 5 here. It was perfect. We were greeted by deer every afternoon in the back garden. Our children loved the garden and ran up and down the hill throughout the weekend. We toasted marshmallows on the fire pit in the evening and we had a beautiful walk to Elterwater. The cottage had everything we needed and was a lovely break from the busy lives we all lead. We would visit again in a heartbeat. Fantastic host & beautiful property!!

A truly superb location and a real gem of a cottage. Well equipped, great communication and superb value for money. You can walk straight from the door with the dog and enjoy all that the Langdale's have to offer. The local pub is very good but walking up the river to Elterwater and you will find the lovely Britannia Inn which has great food and a stunning location. The house was well equipped and neat and tidy - the champagne on arrival and milk in the fridge was a nice touch. Will certainly go again.

We (family of 4 with two teenagers) thoroughly enjoyed this property, it was situated in a lovely area next to Ambleside and close enough to pretty much everything else you'd want to visit in the Lakes. When we arrived we used the keybox and read the manual left out for us, the company were very helpful in all dealings and the property was well cleaned before we arrived. The property itself was well equipped and left us feeling very comfortable when we were there and not out exploring. The bedrooms are of a good size with comfortable beds and the bathroom and kitchen are fine for family use with the lounge area to relax in, the wood burner works very well and heats the room quickly. The property itself is tucked up a lane with off-road parking and is very quiet, a really nice spot to hide away in for your stay. We had a lovely week here.

Beautiful cottage in a secluded and peaceful location. Great to listen to the birds on a morning, and watch the squirrels in the trees. Carr Cragg is in a lovely setting ,we had a visit from a deer during our stay. The place itself is well set out and has all the things you need in the kitchen to cook your own meals if you dont want to make use of the Talbot Bar a couple of minutes down the road. Has a log burner in the main room which is great on those wet days, although the storage heaters give out enough warmth on most days. Lots of hot water for the shower as well. Great location for Windermere and Ambleside.

In a beautiful wooded private dell , safe for children and our dog to play . The children loved the fire pit at the top of the garden and we sat round in the dark telling stories and listening to music . You can walk across the road to the Talbot pub for a hearty meal and a game of pool . Come back to the cabin and sit in front of the log burner to keep warm . Lots of great walks right opposite the property .
