TAKE IN THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE RIVER AND LOCAL WILDLIFE FROM THE GARDEN

Riversedge Cottage enjoys a most enviable riverside position on the banks of the River Brathay at Skelwith Bridge, just strides away from the famous Chesters by The River and the ever-popular Talbot Bar at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel.

Gateway to the majestic Langdale Valley, wonderful scenery, low and high-level walking and cycle routes can be enjoyed right from the door, and there’s always a great watering hole to be found to quench your thirst along the way.

Enjoy a gentle amble along the river to Elterwater, a great route for those with young ones and dogs and one of our favourites and take in refreshments at the Brittania Inn at the finish line before heading back to the quality, home comforts at Riversedge Cottage.

TAKE IN THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE RIVER AND LOCAL WILDLIFE FROM THE GARDEN

Pretty as a picture, this mid-terraced, stone-built cottage provides a quality and comfortable retreat for a smaller family or two couples. From the rear, step into the traditional, farmhouse kitchen complete with Belfast sink and a good range of units and appliances wrapped in cool granite making self-catering a joy and not a chore. Through to the very comfortable lounge dining room where you can curl up on deep-cushioned sofas in front of the wood-burning stove while taking in a movie or your favourite TV programme. The lounge provides a superb view of the enclosed garden and river beyond.

On the first floor are two good bedrooms, one double to the front with en-suite shower, hand-basin and WC, the other an excellent kingsize to the rear of the cottage with garden and river views. A modern, house bathroom has a shower over a corner bath, perfect for relaxing soak after a full day on the fells, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.

The enclosed, manicured gardens are perfect for taking in the sights and sounds of the river and spotting the local heron and kingfishers that often visit. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the patio, partake in a pre-dinner G&T or drink of choice before heading into nearby Ambleside for the evening and sample one of the fine dining restaurants the town has to offer – do call us for recommendations.

Absolutely stunning location and cosy cottage. We loved the sound of the river flowing day and night and it is so peaceful and quiet, with great coffee down the road and a few great scenic pubs not far away as well. Brilliant!

We had a lovely stay. A long time ago we were the first people to stay here. The alterations made to make an en-suite is a real plus. We know the area really well and having a lovely cottage to stay in made it near perfect (you can't legislate for Cumbria weather).

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location. Our weather was very wet and wild but the cosy log burner gave a warm welcome. Breakfast in Chesters started most days and we had dinner at Zeferellis and Fellinis in Ambleside, On our dry day we enjoyed a walk up the hill from our cottage to Loughrigg Tarn- stunning and peaceful.

What a wonderful week. We were all very comfortable and so very lucky with the weather. Breakfast at Chesters, trips to Keswick, Grasmere, Loughrigg terrace and Honister slate mine. Also enjoyed drinks at 'Sticklbarn' and the old dungeon ghyll. And of course walking around Elterwater and having drinks at the pub in the village. It's been heaven.

Enjoy we did, a beautful cottage in a beautiful setting. Mixed weather but better than the forecast and it didn't stop us getting out and about. My 88 year old dad enjoyed our walk around Tarn Hows, the walk over to Elterwater is relatively easy. We were lucky to do the walk on a day the cafe was open. A fabulous week visiting some of our favourite places.

A lovely, clean, dog friendly and homely cottage with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Beautifully appointed it has the convenience of two bathrooms and a very handy easy to use log burner ideal for those chilly nights. The location is just unbelievable adjacent to the river with views of the bridge and nestled between the famous Chester’s coffee shop and the Talbot bar less than a minutes walk. We thoroughly recommend Lakeland Retreats who were great to deal with. Not just warm and friendly but when we had an issue of our own making they responded with pace and enthusiasm A fabulous experience all round, we will definitely be backThank you Lakeland Retreats

Great location, right by the river which is so relaxing and excellent for the kids to play in. The cottage was beautiful, very clean and well laid out. The welcome gift was a lovely surprise. Chesters cafe is also a 30sec walk for coffee, cake or lunch. And Loughrigg Fell a walk from the doorstep. Highly recommend.

Loved this cottage and had a fantastic stay. It is beautifully presented, clean, comfortable and it has everything you need. The location is idyllic with a lovely river flowing nearby and a waterfall a few minutes walk away. We spent many hours sitting in the front garden watching the birds and listening to the river. This is a very comfortable and cosy cottage. The cottage was spotless and lovely and warm when we arrived. In fact our two dogs competed for the spot next to the radiator in kitchen overnight. Location could not be better; we never touched our car once unloaded until we left. There are both challenging and easy walks from the doorstep and three great places to eat - the Skelwith Bridge hotel is 50 yards away (supper for our first night), The Wainwright at Chapel Stile (45 minute walk home after lunch on day 2) and The Britannia (25 minute walk home after supper on day 4). We will certainly be back, either to here or one of Michelle's other cottages.
