They take afternoon tea seriously at the Fizzy Tarte, a café/bar in the heart of Bowness, but they’ve given it their own sophisticated, modern twist.

You can opt for the Classic Afternoon Tea, which includes a selection of mini cakes and sandwiches, savoury bites, warm scones, artisan crisps and tea or coffee. Take it up a luxurious notch with a glass of Prosecco.

When it comes to afternoon tea, The Cedar Manor Hotel likes to do things properly, and they like to think theirs is up there with the best you can get in the Lake District.

So as well as the usual finger sandwiches and savouries, warmed scones with home-made strawberry jam and clotted cream, a selection of tasty desserts and cakes, and a choice of loose-leaf teas or filter coffee, everything is served up on their own Royal Crown Derby bone china tea service.

You can add a glass of fizz or a bottle of bubbly too, if you feel like celebrating.

Who says afternoon tea has to be all finger sandwiches and mini cakes? At the Wild Boar, they’ve gone rustically rogue with their alternative afternoon tea.

So it’s delights such as mini fish & chips, roasted red pepper pork scratchings, pigs in blankets and crispy fried chicken on the menu.

Tradition hasn’t been completely abandoned though – there are still classic scones with cream and jam to finish. They also offer a vegetarian alternative afternoon tea, so non-meat eaters don’t have to go without.
