Explore the shops of Coniston

Coniston can hardly be described as a major shopping destination, but you can find everything you need in this charming little Lake District village without having to venture out to a larger town for your supplies.

All you need during your stay

As you’d expect, walkers and climbers are well catered for, and there’s a village store to pick up your groceries if you’re not eating out in one of the pubs or cafés. And if you’re looking for a gift or souvenir of your Lake District visit, Coniston has got you covered there too.

Just For Ewe

If you’re looking for gifts, cards, stationery, guidebooks, maps, games, toys, puzzles, scarves, jewellery, or even a bar of Kendal Mint Cake, there’s a shop in Coniston that’s bound to have something Just For Ewe.

Run by a Coniston born and bred mother and daughter team, their expansive shop is a treasure trove of desirable delights for all occasions. And on those days when the sun is shining, or even if it’s not, they also have an ice cream counter to help you keep your cool.

The Vintage Shop

Right next to the Ruskin Museum in the Coniston Institute, you can find The Vintage Shop during the summer months (June to September). Step inside and you’ll find an enticing emporium with around 14 stalls selling a wide range of antiques and collectibles.

While away some time browsing through the books, vintage clothes, jewellery, old tools, and other weird and wonderful curios – who knows what treasure you’ll find to take back home with you?

The Institute also looks after The Honest Shop next door, which is a tiny cash-only (pop your money in the honesty box), unstaffed shop selling local gifts and crafts.

Village Store

You’ll often see a gaggle of outdoor geared-up, rucksack-wearing hikers mooching around the Village Store first thing in the morning, stocking up on supplies to fuel their day on the fells.

This handy little independent co-operative store (one of only a few remaining) has been serving visitors and the people of Coniston since 1898.

Selling fresh fruit, vegetables, frozen and chilled food, cereal, confectionery, drinks, snacks, toiletries and everything else you might need or forgot to buy before you arrived in Coniston, it’s open every day from 9am to 7pm (10-5 on Sundays).
