There is a great abundance of tales and folklore connected with the beautiful parish of Hawkshead; the stories told will be chosen on the night according to The Director’s whim and general state of sobriety, ensuring that each tour is simply unique!
Where do the walks begin and when do they take place?
The Hawkshead Ghost Walks take place
- Each Wednesday & Sunday evening
- Beginning outside KITTchEN
- At 7:30pm.

How long do the walks last?
The walks last for an hour and a half (90minutes).
How many people can attend?
Up to 30 souls may accompany The Director, per tour.
Will I need to book?
Booking is essential for these strolls into the unknown.
The minimum number of guests for each walk to proceed is 4.

How much are the walks?
Tickets are priced at £8 for adults, and £6 for under 12’s.
Special rates are available for large private tours: Tallow Tales is available for school groups, corporate events, Satanic Orgies and other special occasions.
All sales are final. If you are unable to attend your chosen date after booking, we will honour your booking on an alternative date, up to 12 months from the original booking.
How do I pay?
Tallow Tales accepts cash, card or payments over the telephone.
Will I need to bring anything?
We recommend that you wear appropriate clothing; these walks take place in Cumbria which means that low temperatures and precipitation are inevitable.
We wish you to be warm and dry. Please be so good as to wear sensible shoes/boots as some of the paths that we shall take may be rough and uneven.
Finally, of course, we shall be exploring the unilluminated parts of Lakeland villages where shadows lengthen and grow sinister. Torches are recommended.
May I bring my dog?
The walks are suitable for canines. However, many have been lost to forces unknown…
May I bring my child?
These walks are suitable for all, but do remember that we will be traversing long, lonely paths; the child in question may get tired. And we will be exploring tales of death, pestilence and murder. The child, in question, may be frightened.
How scary is it?
This depends very much on your imagination; some guests shriek, others shudder. But one thing is certain, all these stories possess a certain macabre atmosphere. Tallow Tales employs engaging, traditional storytelling to convey an atmosphere of the deepest unease.
Is it safe?
Have these stories ever summoned either a restless spirit or a demonic presence?
We cannot fully answer this question.
Our research suggests that any summoned presence may latch onto any one of our guests in order to use them as a host.
To avoid this, the common practice is to make a slight detour before going back to one’s accommodation.
Hawkshead has a variety of charming public houses in which to while away a few hours before returning to dark bedrooms and dark dreams.
Are these walks wheelchair accessible?
The majority of each walk takes place in the centre of the village on smooth, level surfaces which are wheelchair accessible. However, there are one or two tales that take place on the outskirts of the village on rough ground.
Simply inform The Director in advance of any wheelchair users attending the walk and he will accommodate you by ensuring that alternative paths are taken.
