The best Staveley cafes
Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur, a lover of fine food, or simply seeking a cosy spot to relax and unwind, Staveleys cafés have something special for everyone.
Explore, sip, and savour when you visit the village of Staveley.
Everyone loves a café, don’t they?
You might think a café is just a café, but… Staveleys are much much more than that.
Don’t take our word for it, come and try for yourself!
Wilf’s
No visit to Staveley is complete without a trip to the legendary Wilf’s Café – a favourite of cyclists, hikers, ramblers and the ravenous since 1997. We recommend you try and grab a seat on the terrace overlooking the river to enjoy your food and drink if the sun’s shining.
Nearly everything they serve is made in-house, including the bread and cakes, and they’re open every day, as well as Friday and Saturday nights, when they offer a selection of French-inspired dishes – ooh la la!
Open for top-notch all-day breakfasts, with veggie and vegan options too, a great choice of hot and cold lunches, light bites and oh-go-on-then desserts and cakes, there’s something for everyone at Wilf’s – just place your order at the counter and find somewhere to sit. There’s plenty of seating inside and out, including a cosy ‘quiet’ area with comfy sofas to sink into with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. And you’ll also be glad to know, you can bring your woofers to Wilf’s.
More? Artisan Bakery
From the moment it opens its doors in the morning, More? The Artisan Bakery is buzzing with bikers, hikers, regulars and tourists in the know (that’s you now) fuelling up for a day out.
Serving a tantalising range of tastebud-tickling homemade treats, including gourmet sausage rolls, bacon baps, soups, sandwiches and salads, pork pies and pastries, they also do a mean almond croissant along with other sweet stuff – give one of their award-winning mudees a go with a cup of coffee. You know you want to.
Heavenly baked, hellishly good is their motto, and having tasted most things on the menu (all in the interests of research, you understand), we can vouch for its accuracy.
They lovingly bake all the bread they use in the café on-site, and a 16-year-old sourdough culture is at the heart of many of their most popular sandwiches and rolls. You won’t find any unnecessary ingredients here. Just good, honest food, made with love.
Duffins
If the aroma of roasting coffee doesn’t get you following your nose into Duffins, then maybe the thought of freshly filled Lovingly Artisan ciabatta rolls or 12 different flavours of home-made luxury ice cream will. And did we mention cakes? We have now.
Located on the main street in Staveley, just by the entrance to Mill Yard, this small, friendly café and artisan coffee roastery has a couple of tables inside and a long counter by the window so it does fill up quickly.
Their roaster is on show and is in action most afternoons doing its thing with the beans. And you can also buy bags of roasted beans to take home with you or back to your holiday cottage if you just can’t wait.
They also have a deli section filled with tasty things and sell specialist coffee equipment if you fancy picking up an Aeropress or a stove top Moka Pot. Oh, and if coffee doesn’t do it for you, they also make a lovely cuppa.
Take it Away
Staveley is also home to a couple of takeaways.
An excellent fish and chip shop – the very popular Staveley Chippy – which does everything you’d expect a chip shop to do.
And, the newly opened Village Pizza, which slings a tasty range of deliciously topped, doughy discs at very reasonable prices – we particularly like the sound of the Vampire Slayer, which features tomato sauce, garlic butter, mozzarella, red onion and mushroom. Yum!
