Amblesides attractions for the kids
Let’s face it, if the kids are having fun then that means the adults are too. Ambleside has a huge selection of things to see and do for children and toddlers, here’s just a few!
The Rock Shop

Where kids can go to become rock stars – for a while at least. At the Rock Shop they can jump into the gem pit, have a rummage and fill a bag with their favourite finds.
Take part in a Dinosaur Den treasure hunt where they might find a genuine dino fossil. And get creative and make their own bracelet in the Bead Bar.
You can also buy crystals, jewellery, toys and other goodies to take back home from the gift shop.
A visit to the Rock Shop is also a fool proof way to keep the kids entertained for a bit if it’s chucking it down outside.
Ambleside Climbing Wall

If your kids (aged 6 and up) want to have a go at rock climbing but aren’t ready to take on the fells yet, a taster session with qualified instructors at Ambleside Climbing Wall is the ideal introduction.
It’s a great way for them to build their confidence and burn off some of that excess energy. If you’re not keen to get involved yourself, you can watch from the wings (or the café at the top of the climbing wall).
All safety equipment is provided and no previous climbing experience is necessary.
White Platts Recreation Ground

There’s no shortage of sporty things for the whole family to get stuck into at White Platts Recreation Ground. Keen golfers can get swinging on the 9-hole mini golf course, perfect their putts on the putting green, or simply have fun with a round or two of crazy golf.
Three full size tennis courts should satisfy any budding Andy Murrays or Emma Radacanus, and if you fancy something a little slower paced, then the bowling green may be just the ticket.
There’s also an infant play area, and plenty of picnic benches if you just want to spectate or enjoy an ice cream or coffee from the ticket office – where you can also hire any equipment you might need.
Rothay Park

Bring a picnic to Rothay Park in the centre of Ambleside and let the kids run wild on the superb jungle-themed children’s play area, which has swings and roundabouts, slides, things to climb up, things to balance on and more.
There are also natural rocky outcrops they’ll enjoy clambering over, plenty of open space to run around in, ground-level trampolines to bounce up and down on, and a full-size football pitch – plus it’s all surrounded by stunning views.
