SET ON THE QUIETER SIDE OF LAKE WINDERMERE, PERFECT FOR EXPLORING

Woodland Cottage is a well-presented cottage in the quiet hamlet of Backbarrow. Having open plan living areas and a separate den/snug is perfect for families with children.

Backbarrow is a small charming South Lakes village and is just around the corner from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway so perfect for train enthusiasts, what was once built to transport coal and iron is now a very popular tourist attraction alongside the Lakeland Motor Museum. Being only a short drive away from Windermere or Coniston makes Woodland Cottage as a great base for exploring as far as Coniston Old man or to the quieter side of Windermere at Gummers How.

The cottage was perfect for our family. Everything was catered for and the place was in a fantastic location. We enjoyed the nearby pub for an evening meal and walked the trail from the front door. We will definitely be back and have already recommended it to our friends and family

Excellent value for money at this terraced house. It was easy to find and we could park at the back as we had a small car (Fiesta). The house was very clean and had everything as listed. Location was good, near the steam railway and a short drive to lots of attractions. Ulverston only a few miles away where there are lots of shops and restaurants. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Lovely cottage in a very quiet location, not too far a drive from Lake Windermere but far away from the main attractions do as to be quiet. Cottage is roomy yet cosy. Bathroom and roll top bath are lovely. Main bedroom - mattress very very soft - not to my liking but may be to others! Interior of the cottage was spotless. Outside rear garden was a bit shabby though - 10 mins of weeding during the weekly clean wouldn't go amiss. Overall, a lovely property. I would probably stay a bit closer to the bigger fells next time but for anyone wanting to be fairly near Windermere/Grizedale etc. this one is well located.

This space was absolutely beautiful! A place to park at the rear for quick access, beautiful surroundings, and such a beautiful, well maintained home. It was an effortless stay and the lovely weather coupled with the great amenities made this a perfect stay. It was a 10 min drive from Windermere, and the local views were fantastic. Although terraced, the area still felt very private and secluded.

A very pleasant, well-equipped cottage centrally situated in the southern part of the Lake District. Downstairs, the cottage has a nice open plan kitchen / dining / lounge area. It also has separate front room, but we didn't find any need to use it. Upstairs, there are two pleasant bedrooms and a bathroom. We didn't notice until just before we left that there's also a downstairs toilet at the back of the kitchen area! The cottage is managed by an agency, and we did have a bit of a communication mix-up when we didn't realise that two different members of the agency staff had replied to our questions. However, that wasn't a problem, and the agency staff were friendly and responded quickly when we contacted them. We'd be very happy to stay in Woodland Cottage again when we visit that part of the Lake District.

We enjoyed our stay at Woodland Cottage. Really easy to get to from the main road, and it was fantastic to be a short walk from the start of the Lakeside steam railway which we used twice during our stay, and also links to boats across Windermere.

Having spent a week at Michelle's home even if we wanted to find a fault it would be impossible as it is truly comfortable, cosy, well organised and clean house. It is very well situated if you are driving with easy access to the main roads leading to various nature attractions and towns such Windermere and Kendal. There is also a Motor Museum, Steam Train station and children's play area within walking distance from the house. On arrival we also received a pleasant welcome gift (i.e. milk, biscuits, etc.) which was a nice touch.

This was a lovely cottage and a perfect base for our weekend in the lakes. Plenty of space for a family and great we didn’t need to bring our own cot/high chair and baby gate. Would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family and next time we visit the lakes I’m sure we will book here again.

An excellent cottage in a great location. Very family friendly. I stayed here with my wife and two boys (aged 6 and 10). On arrival there were great little touches like a pint of milk in the fridge for us, as well as complimentary biscuits. There were also a number of board games which helped keep the kids entertained. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with amenities Very good internet connectivity (around 70Mbps down and 17Mbps up). Only a 5 min walk from the Haverthwaite railway station where you can get a ride on a steam train. We took a ride up to Lakeside where we had a look around the aquarium, and then took a boat ride over to Bowness. Kids loved it! Highly recommended.
