Nestled in a quiet backwater of romantic Grasmere, White Gables is a fine example of an Arts and Crafts property just oozing original features, character, and the unquestionable charm of the era. Beautifully presented with much attention to detail throughout, White Gables is an incredibly special retreat, a place to spend precious time with your loved ones and create wonderful holiday memories together.
Within strides of the village centre, White Gables has a beautiful, covered entrance porch leading into an impressive living and dining space with notable vaulted ceiling, glorious Inglenook with open fireplace and cosy bench seating to the side. A wealth of solid wood adorns the room and French doors lead out from here to the cottage style garden. A contemporary kitchen is very well fitted, complete with a small breakfast bar for casual breakfasts or lunches. A utility beyond here houses the laundry facilities and provides further access to the outside – it’s also a great spot for the dog bed!
The first of the two bedrooms sit on the ground floor, a delightful twin with striking soft furnishings and access to a separate shower room with basin and WC. On the first floor sits a superb double bedroom displaying interesting wood features of the era with en-suite bathroom with shower attachment over a corner bath, basin and WC.
Outside there’s parking for 3 cars and a delightful garden with furniture provided. Although enclosed, please don’t assume the grounds are ‘dog proof’ and do keep your dogs on a lead, thank you.

What a perfect Christmas vacation! Reminded me a little of The Holiday but without Jude Law! Felt really at home and cosy and warm. Fully enclosed garden for the dogs (this isn't listed as enclosed so was a lovely bonus). Allowed an extra dog :) Despite what can be a busy nearby road, it was so quiet and peaceful, even during night with window open. Owl hooting a couple of nights, also a lovely touch! Beds were really comfy. If I'm being really picky, the pillows were too soft and unsupportive. That's my only complaint! Oh, that, and an outdoor tap installed would be good for washing dogs and bikes. I took a camping shower from Amazon for £25 and washed the dogs at front. Location is spot on for walkers, bikers, runners, and pub goers. Can do a decent dog walking pub crawl between Outgate Inn, Drunken Duck and into Hawkshead, all within a 5 mile circular. Will 100% visit again.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Easy walk into the village, or along a scenic riverside path into the other side of the village. Although on the main road there’s hardly any traffic noise. Cottage is well set up with everything you need, the open fire is so cosy on a wet day(we had 2), out came the board games.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable beds, loads of space, no street noise so very peaceful. We loved our stay and were able to get in some good walks in spite of the weather. Using the bus for transportation was dependable, economical and so much more relaxing than driving those narrow roads ourselves! We had a wonderful lunch at Forest Side, and also enjoyed the other local tea/coffee shops and pubs in the village.

Beautiful property. A period home with a lot of the original features. The kitchen and bathrooms were modern, whilst the rest of the house retained the charm and appeal of when the house was first constructed. It was so charming. The living room was both unique and very welcoming. It was an ideal base for our Grasmere holiday and we both looked forward to returning home at the end of the day. We would have no hesitation in returning for a future holiday and are very happy to recommend White Gables to anyone looking for a very peaceful and enjoyable holiday in lakes.

Having just returned home from a Lakeland Retreats property (White Gables) the property was beyond my expectations. The booking procedure was easy and the communications from Lakeland Retreats was comprehensive yet adequately clear. The property was superb being positioned to allow peace and quiet whilst yet being reasonably central to Grasmere village. The Arts & Crafts interior tastefully complemented the architectural design of the building. The interior decor made the house all the more appealing and even given the unsettled weather it was a joy to stay at White Gables. The house as a holiday let does the owners proud and given my recent experience I will both be booking with Lakeland Retreats again and rebooking another stay at White Gables in the future…..this time for two weeks not one!

Lovely arts and crafts cottage, cosy, very clean, well equipped and with everything you need for your holiday. In a great position within Grasmere village with its own private parking. Welcome gifts and milk were much appreciated, thank you. We visited when it snowed but would be lovely to enjoy the garden in the sunshine too! Will definitely consider White Gables for our next visit to Grasmere.

Lovely, homely house in a brilliant location. Walked to both Easedale Tarn + Alcock Tarn from the door. 2 days brilliant winter weather with snowy fells + sunshine. Lovely meals at The Yan and Travellers Rest (very friendly place too)

Great place to stay, photos didnt do it justice, location short walk to pubs and restaurants (Jumble room the best) ideal for short walk to lake Grasmere for a swim, just a great base to see the lakes. Michelle was there when needed, no complaints - loved it.

Really beautiful house with spacious well furnished and decorated living/dining room. Very useful areas - laundry room, spacious hall, cloak room - make holidaying easier as there is enough space for your stuff. Comfy beds and sumptuous linen.
