TRADITIONALLY STYLISH WITH A CLEVER TWIST

As the name suggests, a wealth of exposed beams adorn the accommodation and add to its character and charm. The Old Beams is a special place to stay, traditionally stylish with a clever twist of al la mode here and there. From the front, step through the stable door and into an open plan living space you’re greeted by a statement focal point of the warming woodburning stove set against a stone backdrop. The cosy lounge space is dressed with deep-cushioned leather sofas and an accent chair, complemented by a relaxed dining area and a well-fitted, country kitchen with all the mod cons you need to cook up a culinary delight for that special night in.

The elegant double bedroom with solid wood furnishings and crisp white linens has a separate dressing room for that added space and convenience whilst the luxurious bathroom, dressed in striking slate is perfect for enjoying a long soak in the tub after a day of sightseeing.

Outside, there’s a small terrace for two giving way to distant views over the village towards Loughrigg Fell.

The accommodation was lovely place to stay, location was excellent with all the amenities of Ambleside easily walkable. The kitchen was very well equipped which helps when you're self catering.

We really enjoyed our week's stay. It is a good size for a couple and has a well equipped kitchen if you want to cook meals rather than going out all the time. The designated car parking space was perfect and right outside of the property, which avoided the need to pay for parking in the nearby public car parks. The location is great - it is set back up the hill from the centre of Ambleside which means that it is fairly quiet, but it is only a few minutes walk from the centre with the pubs/restaurants. Ambleside itself is a great place as a base to explore the Lakes either by car, by public transport or on foot.

The cottage is lovely. We have stayed 3 times now. Location is ideal and parking right outside a HUGE bonus. Clean and well equipped! However, you can hear everything from people in the flat above. It’s not much of a problem if you have a light footed couple upstairs. But on two occasions now we’ve had a young child above us with a lot of crying at night. So you won’t get any sleep if you get the short straw with your neighbours.

Wonderful apartment literally a couple of mins walk from Ambleside town centre. We loved everything about our stay ! We made use of the log fire which was so lovely. As other reviews have stated, the binbags, soaps, etc, there to last through the stay. I’m a Denby fan myself so felt spoilt having lovely crockery to use whilst on holiday too 😄apartment has walks from doorstep. Weather was great for beginning of March, we did do well. We will definitely return here at some point…thanks to the hosts for creating a lovely holiday apartment 👍😄

Felt really cosy and warm as soon as we stepped in the door. There were plenty of supplies to last the week (loo roll, bin bags, washing tabs and powder). I mention this in particular because I don’t often experience it and it’s a nice touch to save buying big boxes of supplies because you’ve forgotten to bring them. The flat was very comfortable and in a superb location. The parking was ‘exciting’ as the visibility on the sharp steep narrow corner is zero. However, one of us spotted from the other side of the road so all okay!

What a lovely welcoming space. I couldn’t fault anything. In fact, my expectations were exceeded as Michelle had been thoughtful in providing all the dishwasher tabs, loo roll, washing powder, bin bags needed for the week. I don’t experience this very often. Cosy yet spacious, very warm and lots of kitchen utensils. The parking space is exciting to get in and out of as it’s right on a tight bend but with one of standing on the other side of the road to guide, it was fine. Thank you. We shall certainly book again.

Lovely place in a perfect location. You can start your hikes right at the cottage, and have plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from in the evenings. We would definitely come back on our next stay in Lake District

Our stay was lovely. Old Beams is in a great location and is very close to the centre of Ambleside and is very comfortable. Parking was a great benefit and the cottage was very well equipped.. One extra little thing was a visit from a lovely lady who cleaned theccottage visited us in the middle of our two week stay and gave us clean towels, tea towels and also offered to quickly change our sheets. We declined, but she was very sweet and helpful..

Where to start.....a truly wonderful week at Old Beams. Welcoming, cosy, warm...a real home from home when you need time out of time! Close to the centre of town and fabulous walks from the door. Everything you need is on the doorstep, yet quietly removed from the hustle and bustle. Just a few highlights....roaring woodburner....spotlessly clean....super bathroom (treat yourself to something from The Bath House).....the most comfortable sofa we've ever encountered in a cottage.....could go on and on but will finish as we began....a truly wonderful week at Old Beams. Huge thanks to the whole team at Lakeland Retreats. We are already planning our return visit.

A beautiful and spacious cottage right in the heart of Ambleside but away from the centre so that it felt nice and private. Absolutely perfect for either a short stay or a week long stay like we did. The only down side was that the bedroom window was so close to the property next door that you could hear noise from that property which kept us awake a few times.

Ambleside is a great location, and the flat is well positioned just up a hill from the main town area with good parking. We were not so pleased by the damp in the main bedroom, or the fact that a fully kitted out kitchen came with milk, but no sugar, salt or basic table goods which we had to go buy which seems a little wasteful.

Great location, close to the town and a lot of local walks. not far to walk down to the lake either. House had everything we needed, and the fire and recliners were a huge bonus. Was easy to communicate with the tram, super helpful and timely. Definitely recommend.
