RIVERSIDE LODGE PROVIDES EXCELLENT ACCOMMODATION, FIT FOR ROYALTY!

Dating back to the 1700s and one of three stunning characterful properties under the same ownership, Riverside Lodge shares in a delightful lawned picnic area right at the water’s edge. Accessed via a footbridge from the parking area, the entrance is at the rear and into a stone flagged snug with exposed beams and games room with pool table, a great way to spend an evening. Incredibly, one of the flagstones bears an inscription noting that none other than Bonnie Prince Charlie rested here – now there’s a claim to fame!

THE MAIN LIVING SPACE

The main living space is on the first floor, traditionally furnished with deep cushioned sofas arranged around a wood burning stove, large dining space and fully fitted and functioning kitchen, well thought out for a larger party. On the top floor sit three excellent bedrooms, one kingsize with en-suite shower room and two full size twin rooms sharing in a luxurious bathroom with deep bath, separate shower cubicle, handbasin and WC.

Riverside Lodge is dog friendly so your four legged friends can join in the fun too – and what dog doesn’t love a paddle?

Secure storage is available for sports equipment if required and there’s private, off road parking for three cars.

Before we even booked we were given plenty of information to help us make the right choice of property to match our requirements as closely as possible. A local firm is much better than a firm where your queries are only dealt with via a call centre where nobody knows the properties, nor the local area. We found Lakeland Retreats to be very responsive and customer-focused They have a good local team and maintenance and housekeeping are expedited efficiently. The property matched its description and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. In an ideal world, there would be a better fridge with more storage space (especially for vegetables) as the existing one is old and not very roomy. We intend to book again with Lakeland Retreats.

Location of the property is perfect for us,edge of town with ample parking. The outside space is very lovely if the weather is good... and we spent a lot of time enjoying the river & it's wildlife.

Lovely place to stay. The outlook to the river and bridge were beautiful. Easy access to town centre and all amenities Ambleside has to offer. The house was lovely, spread over 3 floors.

Beautifully presented house in a lovely setting. Relaxing views of the river and bridge. Bit of traffic at peak times but unavoidable for the area and didn't distracts from the great surroundings. Short walks to Ambleside centre and water head. Perfect for a short break. Thank you.

What an excellent location this was for our family supporting our son in Brathay 10 in 10 marathons. The property was perfect for three couples, especially with some only staying the weekend. There was enough space for us all to move about without getting in each others way. The billiard table was a bonus. Our interactions with Lakeland retreats and the housekeeping team were very good and to be commended as this is not always the case. We especially liked our virtual Rafftle Ghyll hamper ( we saved it until we were down to 1 couple )😊 Thankyou overall a great stay for a special event.

Riverside Lodge is a fabulous place to stay. We felt so at home and despite the weather we’re warm and cosy. The kitchen is well stocked for light meals and hot drinks. The freezer is a full size pan which was great as we had frozen dog food with us and that can take up quite a lot of room. The dishwasher and drying facilities (down stairs) we’re very welcome. The house is a short walk from Ambleside town centre and down to Watersedge. We highly recommend Kystys if you want a special treat, The Unicorn for a home cooked, delicious Sunday Roast. The Watersedge Inn also have a good menu with great tasting food. Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for in the area. We are in a number of places and all meals were very tasty and served well. The presence of a snooker table at the house brought us some additional fun even though I was an epic failure at the game! I can imagine with a crowd the house would be a wonderful place to spend time with your loved ones.

We've just got home from our stay at Riverside Cottage. Upon booking I had a feeling it would be the kind of place that made us want to revisit, and that is exactly the case. We visited as a family of 6 adults and one toddler, with two dogs. Riverside was plenty big enough for us, with great additions of a pool table on the ground floor, excellent heating, a great tv in the lounge, the world's best dishwasher and a laundry room! We really had everything we needed. I was a bit mindful of the toilet being on the top floor, but this wasn't an issue in the slightest. My parents stayed in the room with the en-suite, and the other four adults and tot shared the lovely main bathroom. You spend most of your time on the middle floor, which has a great open plan kitchen/diner and lounge with a great view of the river. The house is in a perfect location for walking in to Ambleside, and also venturing out in the car for 15/20 minutes to various hotspots. 10/10 holiday, all thanks to this house.

The property is in the perfect location, handy for walking straight from the door, and a short stroll into Ambleside. The close proximity to the river is handy for bird watching and also very beautiful. The property offers a lot of space and is well equipped, the snug and pool table were a great bonus. It isn’t as homely as some other other properties we’ve stayed in .. but it was clean and comfortable. My only real negative is the tardiness of the decor, particularly the paintwork on the stairs which was badly chipped and the carpets were well overdue replacing, they looked very dirty. We stayed here about 5 years ago, and nothing has changed, which is disappointing as the same paintwork and carpets needed attention back then.

The house was lovely. It's a great location with a very pretty outlook onto the river and just a few minutes walk into Ambleside. The house is well equipped and spacious - the pool table, snug and boot room are a bonus. We were very comfortable and would thoroughly recommend the property.

Lovely house right on the outskirts of Ambleside. Offered a great base to get into town and explore the rest of the lakes. House was easily big enough for 6 adults and the pool table was a welcome addition

Overall a great stay in The Lakes. The house is situated just off a main road but is still nice and quiet, and it's an easy 5-10 minute walk into Ambleside. There's lots of space in the house and the snooker/pool table was a great addition to the holiday. The garden alongside the river is a real bonus too. The only thing to note is there's one bathroom and one en suite all located on the top floor, just something to be mindful of for a larger party. The kitchen is well-eqipped and there's a washing machine and dryer too.

We had a lovely relaxing stay. There was plenty of room for our family of 5 and dog to relax and enjoy our weekend break. The house was well equipped, very clean and had lovely décor. We particularly enjoyed playing pool in the evenings and have fun by the river with our dog. A great location!

Another fabulous stay at Riverside Lodge. New walks tried, some more strenuous than others! We love this house and have booked to come back again next year. The heron has been back each day and blue tits and mallards, but the highlight was watching the badger on the river bank. Thanks again to Lakeland Retreats and Mr & Mrs Freedman!

HI just to say a huge thanks for creating this wonderful accommodation in such a great location . The care, energy and effort that has been put into making this a special place is obvious and a credit to the owner. From the modern bathrooms, well appointed bedrooms, period style living and dining room, games room, snug and drying/laundry room, this place for me made our short break really special. And the Christmas decorations and virtual welcome pack was icing on the cake. And loved the reference to Bonnie Prince Charlie!

What a lovely relaxing place to stay. The 3 storeys kept us fit ha ha. The garden is a lovely place to relax but if want the town it’s literally a 5 min walk. Beds are super comfy and bedrooms a good size. Plenty of space in the house so don’t feel like on top of one another. Great having the pool table little added bonus. Would definitely book here again. Riverside Lodge is set in a beautiful location just a few minute's walk from the village. It's a unique and historic house with 2 small holiday lets next to it. The back of the house has stunning views of the river and a lovely private garden to relax in. The house is spacious, well equipped and comfortable with excellent wi-fi and powerful hot showers. There's a TV in every bedroom and two others downstairs. It was a great spot to walk either into the village or through the fields, along the river to Low Wood for the water sports.

Riverside Lodge is a spacious, well equipped property with excellent walking on Loughrigg Fell on the doorstep. It is less than 10 minutes walk to the centre of Ambleside and during the ten days of our visit we only used our car once. We especially enjoyed watching kingfishers and gooseanders on the river Rothay from the lounge window.

Fantastic and charming location only a few minutes walk away from Ambleside and the town high street. The house was clean, spacious with a modern finish and a lovely welcoming touch that made us feel right at home. Communication was always quick and helpful throughout and we loved the hamper of wine and cookies when we arrived! We would definitely recommend to friends!

We had a fantastic time staying at the riverside lodge. It was a group of 6 of us and we had ample amounts of space. It felt very homely and is well equipped. We didn’t have a car but were able to get everywhere by foot - both dinner and some nice hikes. The beds are very comfortable as are the sofas. We had a lot of fun playing pool and would have loved to get more time to sit in the lovely and quiet outdoor area had the weather been better.”

We had the most fantastic 2 weeks ar Riverside Lodge. The house was fabulous. Even with 6 people (adults) staying one weekend, it still felt incredibly spacious. The ground floor area was perfect for the dogs, and the standard of the sleeping accommodation was exceptional. The location was perfect for active walkers and the outside space was a real bonus. We will definitely be returning.

I had high expectations for our trip to the Lake District and spent a lot of time looking for the right place. Riverside Lodge was even better that I hoped! The welcome book was VERY helpful. Read it right away! And the bottle of wine much appreciated! That view out the living room window made me stop and appreciate where I was every time I walked in the room! The back yard was lovely with the river running by. We didn't spend much time there as town was just a 5-10 minutes walk in one direction and Lake Windermere about the same in the other direction. And walks going off from either place. We had only 4 people staying in the house, so really it was far more space than we needed. Everything worked as expected - stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, hot water, showers, washer/dryer. There was even a French press coffee maker. No regrets. We had a wonderful time.

This house in this setting is absolutely fantastic! We stayed there with our three boys, 12, 10 & 6, for three nights in October and we had a wonderful time. The host, Michelle, is local and she cannot do enough to please you. The house is spotlessly clean from top to bottom and everything worked as it should do. I suppose if you had to push me to find a negative, and you really would have to push me hard! I would say that for older guests you would have to cross what could be quite a slippery wooden bridge (across the river) to get from the car parking area to the front door if it were raining, and that, as is so often the case with these gorgeous town houses, the accommodation is over three levels and the only toilets are all on the top floor. That really is it though. It is one of the loveliest homes we've ever stayed in actually, great value for money too. We will certainly be returning.
