A Luxurious Riverside Retreat for Two

There are few cottages in the area that can boast such a picturesque riverside setting like Riverside Cottage can. If you’ve ever popped into the fabulous Chesters By The River at Skelwith Bridge for coffee and cake, then you’ll be very familiar with the location of this much-admired property.

A fantastic array of walks can be enjoyed straight from your door ranging from short ambles to full-day hikes whilst cyclists will revel in the number of routes to explore within such a small radius.

Known to its locals as the jewel in Lakeland's crown, nearby Ambleside is well stocked with plentiful eateries and interesting shopping whilst romantic Grasmere offers a quieter, more relaxed pace set against a backdrop of the stunning scenery that’s been inspiring creatives for centuries. And when you’ve worked up a thirst and an appetite, pop along to The Talbot Bar and sample their menu of ‘Lakeland comfort food’ and local Jennings ale, last orders for food 9pm.

We loved our stay, perfect location. The walks and morning swims along a perfect river from the front door turning right were stunning. Our garden at the end was quite secluded. Our Nepresso machine did not work and they brilliantly came out to fix it. Would def stay again.

Riverside cottage is a lovely little lean-to annex on the side of a group of other cottages. The area has a nearby hotel with small bar and restaurant as well as a cafe in the other direction. This place, as mentioned, is cosy (suitable for a couple) but the high ceilings make it feel larger than it is. The stone floor and traditional style doors are really charming. Parking is provided and the property is ideally located for local walks. A nice one is up towards Elterwater.

Another wonderful stay at Riverside Cottage. Everything I needed and always so clean and well presented - a family run business and it shows - thank you.My springer and I had a great week - the garden is a real bonus and this is a perfect location for walking. An oasis of peace and tranquillity.

We had the most wonderful break. The cottage was perfect - beautifully designed, luxurious and the kitchen was so well equipped. We loved the garden and were so lucky with the weather that we had plenty of opportunities to sit out and enjoy it. A fabulous cottage in a magical setting. The ability to park the car so close to the cottage was so useful too. The wood burner was the icing on the cake. The welcome milk and Prosecco were very much appreciated. Thank you so much. We can't wait to come back.

Great little cottage with an unbeatable location. Furnishings were of a high standard and the log fire added to the ambiance in the evenings. Communication was great throughout, so this place comes very highly recommended by us. To top it off there was an excellent pub and cafe nearby if you wanted to go out without driving. Our golden retriever loved the surrounding area with access to a stunning river and nearby fields via woodland path.

Really happy with the place. The location was great with some picturesque walks right on the doorstep as well as access to a pub and cafe for relaxing and/or getting prepared for the day. The furnishings were of a high standard and were made to feel right at home. Our golden retriever loved the beautiful river just across the path and it was helpful to have the porch to dry him off as well as to hang any muddy/wet clothing.

Very nice place, Michelle was great to deal with. Unfortunately location let it down. The place was lovely but public wise was not very great. It is located next to a popular walking route which meant we had people walking into the place we was staying, trying to open the door also knocking. Don’t think it was anything bad other then the public maybe mistaking the place for something it’s not. Other then that great place to stay.

Another wonderful holiday at The Riverside Cottage. So welcoming, spotlessly clean with everything I needed for the perfect holiday with the garden as a wonderful bonus. A perfect location and the perfect cottage. I have already booked for next year - which says it all, I had a wonderful, restorative stay with springer spaniel Tolly. Thank you so much.

Another wonderful week at Riverside Cottage - a perfect location as a base for walking and a wonderful cottage with everything I needed for a fantastic week for my dog and myself - and the lovely garden was an added bonus. I would also like to add that I found the standard of cleanliness was exceptional - you feel that the cottage is 'loved' by Lakeland Retreats. A firm favourite and I cannot wait until my next visit.

I (and my springer) had a wonderful week at Riverside Cottage - cosy and welcoming with everything I needed, with a lovely garden. A lovely cottage in a superb location - one of the best self catering cottages I have stayed in. Just perfect - with excellent support from Lakeland Retreats. Can't wait to return.

Simply amazing place. Gorgeous location and really thoughtful to leave some milk and Prosecco for our arrival. The shower is amazing and just what you need after a day of fell walking! A bus stop nearby for quick access to Ambleside. The place was so cozy and cute and we can’t wait to re-book for next year. Thank you so much :)

This is a gorgeous little cottage positioned right next to Skelworth Bridge on the river. The local scenery is breathtaking and we managed several fabulous walks right from the doorstep. The cottage is small - perfect for us two and our dog- but well equipped. Michelle was a great host and responded very quickly to any emails. We had a fabulous, relaxing stay with some brilliant walks and I’d definitely recommend this place to stay.

Many thanks to you all at Lakeland Retreats for making our recent stay at Riverside Cottage so enjoyable and memorable. We were delighted to receive our hamper which included a lovely ginger cake, shortbread biscuits and fresh bread and butter and jam. They were all enjoyed throughout our stay. Thank you so much for the wonderful service we received. We really appreciated all that Riverside Cottage had to offer, the espresso machine, the fluffy towels, how clean it was everywhere, the beautiful garden and location and are so grateful to you all for all the care that was put into making it all so lovely for us. We had a great stay and so did our golden retriever Sammy.
