A blend of original, antique features married with modern-day facilities

Accessed through the front cottage garden, step into Pine Fold’s hand-built farmhouse breakfast kitchen, a superb social space with beamed ceiling and stable door out to the garden. The kitchen has a large electric double oven, five-burner gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer/dryer. The dining room beyond is ideal for a more formal dinner with flagged floors, original spice cupboard and beamed archway opening into a lovely beamed sitting room with wood burning, window seat, TV with Freeview, YouView and DVD.

The first floor is reached by way of original stone steps and onto the spacious landing, leading to the three spacious bedrooms; the master bedroom has a king-sized bed, a deep window seat and en-suite with shower over bath, basin and WC; the second bedroom is a double room and, a third large bedroom has both a king-size bed and a single bed to be used as either a double or a twin room.

Of the three bathrooms, the main bathroom is traditional in style with free standing roll top bath, large separate shower, basin and WC. There is a further shower room on this floor with shower cubicle, basin and WC.

The well-tended, terraced gardens are a mix of lawn and patio areas with mature shrubs and borders, awash with colour in the Spring and Summer. Outside furniture is provided allowing you to take a seat and take in the far-reaching views across the valley.

The farmer next door keeps sheep and cattle which sometimes graze just below the garden wall. Private parking for two cars, on hard standing, is available just outside the gate.

Quintessential westmorland cottage set in the stunning Troutbeck valley

Dating back to the 17th century, Pine Fold is a fine example of a traditional Westmorland cottage set within the tranquil village of Troutbeck. Picture postcard pretty, Pine Fold oozes Olde Worlde character and charm and displays an array of wonderful, original features throughout including a wealth of oak beams, intriguing little alcoves and a magnificent wood burner set in a huge Inglenook. These beautiful, antique features have been cleverly married with modern-day conveniences and traditional décor to create a superb home from home, somewhere to share precious moments with your loved ones.

Troutbeck is a walkers’ paradise offering low and high-level routes through a dramatic Lakeland landscape. Garburn Pass and Troutbeck Tongue can be seen from the south-facing terrace and the lower slopes of Wansfell Pike are just minutes from the cottage.

This quaint hamlet retains the original Post Office, now also a general store and tea room whilst two excellent country pubs are within a short walk of Pine Fold, The Mortal Man and The Queen’s Head, both serving local ales and homemade fayre.

Troutbeck enjoys quick access to the more popular and busier resorts of Ambleside and Windermere, being just a short, 10-minute car drive where you’ll find a good selection of mini supermarkets, shops, galleries, cafes and bars.

We had an amazing stay! The house is spacious, well furnished and surrounded by peaceful nature. From there, there are amazing walks accessible without a car. The nights we spent by the fireplace were unforgivable. I would 100% recommend this place.

This was a beautiful property in a beautiful location. Extremely well appointed, particularly in the kitchen. Well heated for those colder times. We met up with our son and some friends here and there was plenty of space for the 6 of us. My wife and I have been travelling through the US, Canada and the UK for over 2 months and this has been without doubt the best place we have stayed at (not counting friends houses in case they read this).

Pine Fold is a lovely cottage in a super location. The tricky bit is driving out to the A592, steeply uphill with limited visibility - luckily there was never much traffic and we never had any problems. The views are great from the windows and the lovely garden, as long as the cloud is not down. It's a good place for exploring Central and Southern Lakes, but parking in these popular areas is getting ever more difficult.

The cottage is stunning, even better in real life. The view of the hills is amazing. It's in a lovely quiet area but only 5 minutes walk to the Queens Head Pub which has amazing food and a large selection of drinks. We ate here one evening and had breakfast on our last morning. It is very popular so make sure to book. The cottage is extremely well-equipped, there was everything you will need for your stay. There are lots to do in the area, it is only around 10 mins to Windermere in one direction and about 10 to Ambleside. We hired a boat from Bowness and went round the lake, walked round some lovely villages and even had a pint in a pub that has 7 cats! We enjoyed many meals and drinks out, including the quirky Crafty Baa in Windermere, Bandito Burrito and Hyltons. Although this was our first time to the lakes it won't be our last and we would definitely stay here again. We actually said we would like to live in this lovely cottage!

Pine Fold was a excellent base for our week expiring The Lakes. There are plenty of great walking routes nearby and stunning views to be seen. The house was immaculate when we arrived and we felt at home here. Would highly recommend!

We had an amazing family holiday here - very central to everything - great walk on the door step to Troutbeck Tongue and great to have the pub just up the road

A fantastic spot in a lovely part of the world. We were fortunate with the the weather and had glorious clear days. The garden is glorious and has wonderful views - including a low level passing jet one afternoon. The kitchen was well equipped and I’d move in here permanently in a heartbeat :)

We stayed at Pinefold for a week at Easter and had an amazing time. The cottage is just as good as it looks in the pictures and the location is stunning. There was plenty of space for four adults with plenty of hot water, a very well equipped kitchen and the most beautiful garden and views. Beds were super comfy.Lots of walking direct from the door (the furthest we travelled was about 20/30 minutes). If you want to eat at The Queens Head recommend booking before your holiday as we tried to book on the day we arrived but they were fully booked all week. A beautiful holiday home - book and you won’t be disappointed.

We stayed at Pinefold in half term with our two children (8 & 10). What a gorgeous house! It has all the character of an old farmland cottage with the modern comforts we're used to - good hot showers & baths, comfy beds, fluffy towels, a log fire, well equipped kitchen, good heating, plenty of TV channels & wifi. We loved the location - a short walk to the pub, lovely walks from the front door around Troutbeck Tongue and more, but well enough hidden to be a retreat. The weather was really wet the week we stayed and we were so grateful to have a warm, spacious house to hang out in, as well as to come back to dry out. The boiler room makes a great drying/boot room too! Lakeland Retreats were super responsive when needed. Would love to come back another time!

We really enjoyed our stay at Pine Fold. The photos, we all felt, didn't quite do it justice; it's a beautiful old cottage situated in good proximity to Windermere, Ambleside and Ullswater which we took good advantage of. We also did a great sunrise walk up the lane where you get wonderful views through the valley that the house overlooks (go up Ings Lane, over Ings Bridge, across to Longmire Road and head north). The cottage is well kitted out in terms of cooking utensils etc., Communication from the agency was prompt and they accommodated our request for a travel cot and answered our questions in good time. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The cottage is beautiful and traditional but very comfortable and well equipped. Lovely comfortable and modernised but charming bedrooms (particularly liked the ensuite in the master bedroom- what a view). The garden is fantastic with level lawn at front but also terraces which get the sun at different times of day. It is secluded and quiet with amazing views across the valley, but also within easy walking distance of two great pubs. Easy drive to Windermere and Ambleside and lots of walking options from the door (recommend paths to Ambleside and back via Skelghyll woods and Wansfell Pike- also the walk up High Street).

The cottage was lovely and the garden and views were amazing! The garden terraces mean that you can get the sun in morning or evening and the little paved courtyard holds the heat. So peaceful as well apart from birds in the morning! No traffic noise in spite of being a short walk from the main road and the Queens Head. Also easy walking (5min) to the Mortal Man with its great beer garden. The cottage bedrooms were comfortable and bright and there were plenty of showers/bathrooms. The kitchen was one of the best equipped I have experienced in a holiday cottage. The location was so handy for Windermere and Ambleside- lovely walk to Ambleside via Skelghyll Woods and back by Wansfell Pike. We would definitely recommend the cottage and location. Lakeland Retreats team were responsive and contactable. Thanks again!

Clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage with plenty of maps, books and info on the area and in a good location. We were well looked after by Lakeland Retreats who were easily contactable by phone if needed. We had a great time!
