As the name suggests, the cottage sits in the middle of three properties under the same ownership, all sharing in a delightful lawned picnic area at the water’s edge. Accessed via a footbridge from the parking area, Middlebeck’s windows face towards the river, the dining table providing a front row seat! The sofas are strategically placed in front of the wood burning stove and a neat but perfectly functional kitchen will ensure you can properly self cater if you so wish.

The spacious bedroom on the first floor has a super king size bed to ensure a good night’s rest and plenty of room for a cot if you’re bringing your little one with you. There’s a powerful shower in the en-suite and of course, like most of our retreats, Middlebeck is dog friendly so your four legged friend can also join in the fun – and what dog doesn’t love a paddle?

Secure storage is available for sports equipment if required and there’s private, off road parking for two cars.

Location & Nearby

Situated right on the banks of the River Rothay and a mere 5 minutes level walk from the village centre, Middlebeck makes for a superb bolthole for a couple, whatever time of year you choose to visit Ambleside. The sight and sound of water is so soothing and this stretch of the Rothay is home to an abundance of wildlife; herons, ducks and even an otter.

Those water babies among you will enjoy getting into the river from the door and paddling your kayak or paddleboard down to the Lake whilst anglers will be pleased to know that this stretch of water is outside of WADAA control and although an Environmental Agency rod licence is required between the season, 15th March to 30th September, no additional fishing licence is required. Perhaps you’ll catch your own supper!

Really great place to stay, great location, just a short walk in to Ambleside. Property was comfortable and clean with everything we needed for a weeks stay. Host was great with really good information provided to find the place and for things to do in the area.

A compact, clean cottage in a fab location to walk into Ambleside. The kitchen area and living area is on the first floor with the bedroom & bathroom on the second floor. You enter the property either by the back door on the beck side of the property ie ground floor or the front door on the road side of the property at first floor level. The views out of the back of the property over the beck & towards the Rothay Bridge are stunning. The road is very busy at the front of the property during the day, but quiet in the evenings so you can sleep. Being walking distance into Ambleside is a great plus. We would stay in this property again.

Middlebeck is delightful cottage on the edge of Ambleside. Through one garden gate you are a few mins walk from all that the village has to offer. From the other side of the garden you are immediately out onto paths crossing fields toward the lake or the fells. No need to use a car the whole time you are there. But then, you may struggle to ever leave the wonderful garden, gazing at the river that meanders through the middle. It really is a little oasis.

This cottage has the best of both worlds. You wake in silence in a king size bed, and have breakfast overlooking the river. But just five minutes outside the front door is the centre of Ambleside. The shared walled garden is perfect for sitting out or letting the pooch have a quick leg stretch first thing in the morning. The cottage itself is a perfect size, split between 3 levels, with all the amenities you need for a short or long stay. My partner and I had a lovely week here over new year, and will be back! Thank you to all at Lakeland retreats!
