LANTY SLEE, AMBLESIDE

Taking its name from the notorious local farmer and quarryman-turned smuggler, ‘Lancelot’ Lanty Slee, this pretty Lakeland cottage sits in one of the oldest parts of Ambleside just on North Road. Offering a convenient and comfortable retreat, whatever time of year you choose to visit the Lakes.

Enter Lanty Slee from the front and straight into the cosy, colourful lounge where you’ll find comfortable, retro furnishings set against wooden floors with rugs, all arranged around a wood burning stove set in an Inglenook, colour TV with SMART TV dongle.

A sunny open hallway leads to the rear access of the house and from here, a beautiful handmade spiral staircase leads down to the contemporary, well fitted kitchen diner, an attractive room providing a perfect blend of the old and new; the stylish units set against a backdrop of flagged floors, exposed old beams and a feature black range.

FIRST FLOOR

On the first floor lie two superb new washroom facilities, one with a shower over the bath, the other a stylish shower room – you get a great view over the village towards Loughrigg Fell from the bathroom.

The main double bedroom is on this floor, prettily decorated with wooden floors and an original feature fireplace.

SECOND FLOOR

On the second floor are two further bedrooms; a bright and sunny twin to the front of the house and a smaller double to the rear with access to only one side of the bed making this facility suitable for one adult or two young children.

There’s a handy secure outhouse to the rear of the house where you can store a couple of bikes and although there is no garden here at Lanty Slee, you’re just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Rothay Park, a 10 minute stroll from the shores of Windermere and minutes away from the slopes of the majestic fell range that surrounds Ambleside.

The parking permit provided is for use on the nearby car park and can be used on several other car parks throughout South Lakeland offering you quite a saving on parking costs during your holiday.

Please note: the property is really a sleeps 5/6 due to the size and layout of the third bedroom.

Very nice cottage in the old part of Ambleside. Pubs, bus stop and shops are very near and many nice walks can be undertaken directly from the cottage. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. All is clean and you feel at home from the very beginning. You shouldn’t mind using stairs, because the rooms spread over four floors. There is no parking place next to the house but we were provided with a permission to use the car parks free of charge. Everything was perfect for us (a group of five people aged between 23 and 64 years). We can highly recommend it.

4 of us asked to stay here for the weekend on very short notice. We were communicated with quickly and friendly and finding the place was easy. the place itself was extremely nice with plenty of room for 4 adults to stay. nothing bad to say about our stay and would recommend to anyone visiting Ambleside or the lake district in general

We had an amazing stay for one week. Check-in was smooth and everything worked fine! Convenient location accessible to the main lakes by public buses as we didn't have a car. The cottage was so cute that my children did not want to leave!

Lovely house in the heart of Ambleside. Great for the local walks like; The Langdales, Scarfell Pile, Hellvelyn and nice just to walk out from Ambleside. The house is very pleasant and spacious. There is a great butchers 20m from the front door, and a pub 5m for that post walk beer!

The cottage was spotless and really well equipped. The location- in the old part of Ambleside- was absolutely perfect. We had a wonderful holiday- highlights were climbing Helvellyn, boat/ walk to from Wray Castle and coffin route to Grasmere (with gingerbread). Thanks Michelle!

What an amazing place in the heart of Ambleside and great restaurants and pubs with local food and drinks. The place is perfect for a family of 4 but if you are very elderly the stairs are quite steep but it goes with the age of the house . highly recommend this property we love the week stay here Mark

We enjoyed our stay at Lanty Slee, it is a very nice 4 floors sweet house, right in the town, very easy to go everywhere, perfect location. We loved the living room, nice temperature, cosy Conner with lots of comfortable pillows, kids had the tv, adults had the corner! We love the kitchen, very cosy, felt like home! There is almost everything what you need in the kitchen! We had to wash clothes, the warmer hanger very surprised us, very very convenient! We stayed for 4 nights, we would like to stay longer, so we definitely want go back again! Definitely recommended!

We absolutely loved our visit to Ambleside. We travelled as an adult family of 5 and it was very comfortable and well equipped for our group. The location is right in the heart of Ambleside with easy access to many wonderful places within the Lakes region The property is split over 4 levels and has steep staircases, which was no problem at all for us but worth knowing. Highly recommend

Thank you so much for the stay. We absolutely loved it. The house felt homely from the moment we entered and we loved the location. We were in the heart of Ambleside - it was perfect for us as we loved a stroll to a new coffee shop each morning. And everyone was so lovely! You were also never far from stunning views.

Lanty Slee is perfectly situated to explore the Lakes. Ambleside is great- great places to eat and lovely to wander around. Comfortable and clean house to stay in thank you. There isn’t carparking on site as stated on air bnb. There is a permit provided for the local carpark but be prepared to hunt for a space at times.

Sweet house in a brilliant location! Ideal if you want to discover Ambleside on foot, go out walking into the gorgeous surrounding hills, enjoy the cinemas and pubs and eat out in the evenings. Upstairs alcove double bed in the purple bedroom had plenty of room for my children (5 & 7) and they enjoyed the novelty of being surrounded by walls! The office were always incredibly helpful when we called with small issues. Arrival was smooth and trouble free. Thank you very much!

We absolutely loved our stay in your Cottage , the only thing I would of liked more was a view but we were so central that this was perfect for my daughter and friend. We have come to the lakes every year for many years now , but we will definitely use your company again.

The cottage was so lovely. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The location is easy to walk to the city center and there is a large field nearby to take your dogs if needed. The cottage had great spaces for all of us. The beds were so comfortable and they had everything you need! The kitchen was well stocked as well. We loved it here! Thank you for thinking of everything.

You won't find a cleaner, cuter cottage than this one! It is perfectly located in Ambleside - we could walk to everything, and we appreciated the parking pass that allowed us free parking in many area car parks! The cottage is beyond spotless, and there were many thoughtful touches, such as two bottles of local beer and fresh milk in the fridge. Loved the unique layout of the space, and we had plenty of room despite being a family of five! Absolutely loved staying here - didn't want to leave! Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Great central Ambleside location, next door to a pub and round the corner from a better one. Lovely butcher on the street too. Extremely clean and well equipped cottage, tastefully decorated. Very easy to get to other places in the Lake District. The only thing was we sometimes had to wait for a parking space on return to the car park, but that was a small price to pay for a fabulous week.

I would highly recommend this cottage! It's got character, is beautiful, clean and tidy. The owners have taken a lot of care to make it homely and comfortable. The communication after booking was fantastic, I always got a fast response (had messaged with a few questions). The cottage is located centrally in Ambleside, it was ideal. Lots of places to eat and things to do, multiple vegetarian restaurants etc too! Ambleside is a wonderful location, as is Windermere. Couldn't of wished for a better holiday. So happy to have booked here!

Beautiful cottage in a central but not too overlooked location in Ambleside. The house is well furnished and is perfect for a family/friend getaway. The weather couldn’t have been better at the time of stay and we’re glad we picked such a wonderful spot. Plenty of access to a range of nice restaurants and cafes, with two small local supermarkets selling the essentials. Perfect place for hill-walking and day trips to Windermere.

Thank you! We had just the best ever time at Lanty Slee. Everything about the place is amazing. Parking is obviously a bit of a pain but totally understandable given the central location of the home. We will be going back repeatedly to this incredible home. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you to Lakeside Retreats for taking such good care of us! Kind regards Simon Hodson

Very clean and well appointed holiday home. Great Ambleside location a few minutes walk from the town's shops, pubs and restaurants. Very peaceful and quiet at night, even with the traditional and cosy Unicorn pub literally next door. Only caution is if you aren't good with stairs as they are rather steep, otherwise a good base for the Lake District.
