FAIRY TALE COTTAGE AT THE FOOT OF THE HORSESHOE

Horseshoe Cottage is oozing in character and is everything you would expect from a Lakeland Cottage. Beautiful cottage garden at the foot of many Lakeland walks, and round the corner from Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth, which is open to the public.

You can leave your car outside and walk the fells straight from the door. Head up towards The Fairfield Horseshoe, The coffin route or have a gentle walk to Rydal water and Caves. The Badger Bar is just around the corner serving food and local ale with a cosy log fire for getting a rest after exploring Rydal water and caves, and Nabb Scar and beyond to the Fairfield Horseshoe.

Horseshoe Cottage is a characterful home away from home; tastefully decorated, cosy, extremely well equipped - if you wanted to bake here, you really could. The welcome was fantastic: a bottle of prosecco awaited plus enough logs for a fire that evening - and milk in the fridge. The location is fantastic: quiet as off the main road but close to a bus stop for Grasmere and Ambleside and beyond; both Grasmere and Ambleside are also walkable (45 minutes, bus back!); Rydal Mount gardens and house are an interesting visit on the doorstep, as is Rydal Hall with its excellent tea room and grotto. The Badger Bar at the end of the road does a range of ales and a pie of the day, delicious! Lots of great walks and climbs for every ability close by. We had a wonderful holiday and will be back soon. We've been coming to the Lakes for years and this is the only place we said we'd stay again. Thanks so much for a wonderful break!

Very cute cottage perfect for our family of four. Located in Rydal just near Ambleside, and easy access via bus to Ambleside and Grasmere. Excellent hikes right outside the house and adorable tea shops nearby.

This cottage was in a perfect location for long and short walks/Hikes without using the car. Within walking distance to both Ambleside and Grasmere and further if your up to it. Your own parking spot right outside. The cottage was well equipped and the bed was very comfy. I do think the cottage needs a lick of paint and the sofa needs some new foam in and a clean and perhaps declutter

A great place to stay in the Lakes. A cosy cottage with everything you need, including a parking spot at the front of the property. Perfectly located for walks with the added bonus of a pub nearby.

It would have been helpful if the name of the cottage was clearly signed. Kindly left us some milk but it could have been in the fridge - luckily it wasn’t a warm day. A few logs to put in wood burner would have been a nice touch. There was only one dishwasher tablet and the particulars stated ‘a supply’. Similarly toilet rolls ran out after 3 days!!

The Lake District cottage was exactly how we imagined. The photos were accurate and it was very homely. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The location could not have been better! We were surrounded by places to walk and explore; Rydal Mount, Rydal Hall, footpath to Ambleside, footpath through Rydal Park, Rydal Waters and last but not least, footpaths to some fantastic mountains! We loved it all. Luck was with us and we had sunshine every day. We were very sad to leave and hope to be back.

An amazing cottage at a great location, away from the hustle and bustle yet with 2 tea rooms and a pub right around the corner and a short drive or walk away from larger villages with more amenities. The cottage was really cosy and made us feel at home right away.

Horseshoe Cottage was perfect in every way. It felt like home the minute we walked in. The location was perfect for walking and hiking. There's a lovely coffee shop across the road, in Rydal Hall, that serves lots of yummy homemade cakes. The perfect way to end a long walk. The log burning stove made our evenings so cosy, and we loved watching the birds feed in the backyard. The only negative was having to pack up and go home. We'll definitely be back!!
