A VERSATILE LAYOUT AFFORDING SPACE, COMFORT AND CHARACTER

The accommodation here at Hillcrest at Roger Ground is light, bright and surprisingly spacious. The superbly appointed, well-fitted kitchen with a host of excellent appliances and ample storage and workspace for everyone to lend a hand with dinner. The kitchen flows through to the beautiful breakfast come dining room, a perfect entertaining space with a feature fireplace and a large picture window from where to enjoy dinner with a view. Off here is the comfortable main lounge room with a warming wood-burning stove and ample seating for everyone to sit back, relax and enjoy their time together.

The sleeping accommodation is equally stylish and comfortable. The master king-size bedroom has a contemporary, quality en-suite with a large shower cubicle, basin and WC whilst the smaller double and twin bedrooms share in the spacious family bathroom, luxuriously appointed with a shower over the bath, basin and WC.

Outside, the terrace to the front overlooks the pristine grounds gives way to far-reaching views towards Kirstone Pass and the surrounding mountain range whilst the terrace at the rear offers views over rolling countryside to Sawrey and beyond.

BEAUTIFUL, COTTAGE STYLE BUNGALOW IN DELIGHTFUL SEMI-RURAL LOCATION

Hillcrest at Roger Ground is a rather beautiful, cottage style bungalow set in the heart of Beatrix Potter territory offering stylish and characterful accommodation and a glorious view to match! Take in the far-reaching, south-facing views over the unspoilt countryside from the house and terrace. Enjoy the stunning vista from the strategically planned gardens towards Sawrey and in winter, across to Esthwaite Water.

Stylishly presented and flooded with light from the large picture windows, the spacious living areas are extremely versatile, allowing all of your friends and family to cosy up around the wood-burning stove and enjoy a film together or equally, enjoy a quiet corner to themselves to read a book, listen to some music, or simply to soak up the view.

The breakfast come dining room is perfect for sharing a leisurely brunch or supper and is a great setting for a celebration dinner.

The small hamlet of Roger Ground is less than a mile from the centre of Hawkshead, reached along a level, country footpath crossing sheep dotted fields towards the church and down into the village. Once you’ve walked up a thirst and an appetite, there’s a fine selection of watering holes and cafes dotted around the pretty square where you can relax and refuel before for the return leg.

Our top three must do’s in the locality are a visit to Hilltop, the former home of Beatrix Potter at Near Sawrey, a walk around the picturesque Tarn Hows and for those thrill-seekers amongst you, a day at Go Ape at nearby Grizedale Forest.

Excellent place to stay for visiting the Lake District. Needless to say that you need a private transport/car to roam around. Even though there aren’t many places to eat nearby, the kitchen has all the necessary utensils for you to cook something quick.

A beautiful spacious, light and airy cottage in a quiet backwater but close to Hawkshead village. We had such a lovely time as a group of six adults and a baby. Everything we needed was there. Great to have a bath for soaking in after long walks and a separate shower for those that prefer that. Easy walking into Grizedale Forest and great location to bag a few Wainwrights or explore Hawkshead (don’t miss the ice cream shop!!) Ambleside, Grasmere and beyond. Reversing into the driveway proved the easiest for us since the cottage is on a hill and on a blind bend. The local ospreys nesting viewable (especially if you have binoculars) from the boats hireable from the Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery was a great surprise find. They also have a nice little cafe. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

We had a great time at Hillcrest. It’s close to the lovely village of Hawkshead, with pubs, cafes, and shops. It’s a very comfortable and everything is good quality. There are beautiful views to open countryside from the lounge and patio and you can link to a range of excellent walks.

Comfortable, spacious property. Well-equipped, lovely views and excellent location. We especially liked the proximity of a footpath into the village. Although the weather was kind, we would like to return when the weather is warmer to take advantage of the outside space. Thank you Lakeland Retreats.

Hillcrest at Roger Ground looks very clean, practicable and with some pleasant Lakeland views. It is also very close to Hawkshead via a country footpath and to Esthwaite water. The location appears to be rurally peaceful which would suite us. We found the dwelling after a decent trawl on the magical internet and this gem came up trumps for us. Unfortunately, due to an excruciating back injury at the last minute and ensuing concoction of prescribed drugs which had me staggering around in a somewhat inebriated fashion, thus making driving a prospect somewhat less than responsible we could not stay for our week there. This was to be our easy going break in the wonderful Lake District which we know well, prior to an imminent major operation. So, we are hoping that once recovered we can reward ourselves with a stay at what looks to be a wonderfully relaxing and well looked after abode. I have scored a 5 for the stay simply from reading the description and other reviews and seeing the photos. Standby by for a ‘been there/done that’ review in due course.

We loved our stay at Hillcrest. The cottage had everything we could possibly need and included a delightful welcome hamper with local produce and we were very pleased to find milk in the fridge. The house was very clean and beautifully presented. The views from the garden and the secret steps up to the balcony were stunning. The location is fantastic, the 10 minute walk through the fields opposite took us right into the centre of the town. We’d love to come back again!

A total home from home! So comfortable and super well equipped from great quality kitchenware to great mattresses for a great sleep. Light, spacious & airy. Close to Hawkshead an easy walk (on road or across fields). Lovely to have arrived to the lights on, fire made up & local goodies. So many great walks from the bungalow you don’t need the car! Thoroughly recommend and hope to stay again 😊. Thank you Michelle

Our 11 nights at Hillcrest wasn’t long enough, such a comfortable and spacious place. We loved the views from the lounge and the spacious rear bedroom, the patio, the new bathrooms, the fabulous new kitchen etc ! Thank you for the tasty welcome treats ! It was so nice to be able to have such a short walk into Hawshead where we all spent many happy hours shopping, eating and just looking around. It’s ideally placed for lots of great walks and swims in the beautiful lakes. The bungalow was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Our 2nd stay at Hillcrest. The cottage is all on one level, extremely comfortable, bright, warm and spacious. The kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances. The heating is easy to control if needed and hot water is instant. Comfy beds, bath and seating/ sofas. Love the views. Outside furniture with seat cushions for al fresco meals/coffee. We will be returning next year (at least once). Highly recommended.
