Castle Crag

Very central, nice place

We had no problems at this property, it was perfect for our needs in a great location. No parking, but a permit is provided for use in a car park 200 metres away, this can also be used at various car parks throughout the Lakes. Ambleside is a vibrant town, and we found it very dog friendly.

Just what we expected. Great location although lack of parking could be an hinderance to some people. Very cosy and modern apartment with everything we needed.

Lovely cottage in a fab location. The only thing which would have made it faultless was parking but the free permit was a bonus that you could use elsewhere in the lakes. Would go back !

Michelle's place is clean and comfortable. The parking permit was very welcome as the flat doesn't have its own space, but be aware that when arriving late afternoon the public carparks might be full. However, the local buses are so good we hardly used the car. Ambleside has a huge choice of good places to eat, several Italians, a couple of Thais, a Tapas bar and many pubs. If you don't want to walk far, the Temperance Inn is just across the road.

Really handy, right in centre of Ambleside. Parking permit means parking no problem in carpark 2 minutes away. Small and compact but ideal for us as a couple with a small dog.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay. The location was superb and we did lots of lovely walks without having to drive, but we did choose to drive to Helvellyn, Cat Bells and Windermere while there. The views from the village are wonderful. In terms of walks from Ambleside, I highly recommend the Red Screes circular, the views up there are great. We also did the Loughrigg, Rydal water circular a nice slightly flatter route. I did a nice circular to Rydal caves and back to Ambleside over Todd Cragg. You are spoilt for choice with great restaurants in the local area. The hosts were very responsive. I would definitely book again with Lakeland Retreats, really wonderful hosts. My only regret is not booking for longer! Really didn’t want to leave to come home. Thank you so much for a truly memorable break. I’ll start looking for our next one asap. Absolutely loved it and there’s so much more of the lakes I’m keen to explore, only scratched the surface in a week.

We had a wonderful stay at the Michelle’s place. Beautiful, tidy, cosy flat with everything we needed for our stay. Perfect location in Ambleside town centre, lots of great local (dog friendly!) pubs and restaurants and plenty of fantastic walks and scenery around! Only had initial difficulties with finding the flat! It’s a sharp left turn off the main road, up a steep driveway with a stone wall. But great to have a parking spot just outside the flat. Would definitely recommend!

Michelle listing was perfect! A little home from home and right in the heart of Ambleside. If you're after a fantastic base to explore the lakes then Michelle's is a must.

In the heart of Ambleside, within walking distance to all amenities, this little flat is ideal for a long weekend break for a couple. We found the bed VERY comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. Would be ideal for a well behaved dog owing to the ease of access and stone floors. I'd recommend staying here.

Me and my wife stayed here for 4 nights and it is a lovely cosy apartment. Super easy check in and check out. Lots of info on hand via the guestbook for places to eat and really well placed for everywhere you want to visit. We went to Grassmere for gingerbread, Ullswater for the steamboat and walk back, Buttermere for the stunning raw natural views and walks up the Haystacks and around the lake. Windermere for a great boat ride (which is about 15min walk to the Ambleside pier). The bed was really comfortable and a welcome relief after a hard days trekking up and down mountains. The shower warmed us up when we got home and all the bits and pieces you’d need were catered for. We mostly ate out, so didn’t use the kitchen for much more than tea and breakfast. Ambleside is a really good hub to explore The Lake District from and Castle Crag is a very central place to stay. Michelle and Adam were great host and while we didn’t actually meet anyone in person, it goes to show how seamless all the comms were that we didn’t need to. One tip I’d add in, is reverse up the driveway to the entrance as it’s really steep and hard to do front ways. We parked in a nearby carpark with the permit provided (so free). We will 100% be coming back to stay again. Loved The Lakes and loved Castle Crag.

Great wee place. Very cute, cosy and comfy and a very handy location.

We had a great stay in Castle Crag. The apartment was clean and tidy and a perfect size for us (2 adults and a 3 month old baby), and had all the amenities we could want. The bed was super comfy too. Location is perfect - bang in the centre of Ambleside, and the Lake Road car park is only a 2 minute walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful stay. Castle Crag was right in the middle of town and had everything we needed for our stay. As others have mentioned only downside is there is a pub down the road which is very loud on live music nights (Friday) but otherwise fine the rest of the weekend

Great location great wee cottage

My partner and I had a really lovely week long stay here! Perfect location for a week walking in the Lakes. The place was spacious, clean and well looked after.

We really enjoyed our stay in Ambleside. The studio flat was perfect for us and our dog to explore the town and others around the lake. The parking permit was great and saved us a bit of money when we were out and about.

We found staying here perfect, very snug and cozy. the location is so convenient and a stones throw away from shops & restaurants. perfect!

Had a lovely week aided by great weather. Beautiful apartment. Would have liked bigger towels, I couldn’t wrap one round me , so my husband had no chance. An airer for wet clothes would be useful too as sharing laundry facilities isn’t always convenient. Otherwise a clean, well designed space for two. Thank you

We had a lovely 4 night stay at Castle Cragg in June. The location is just as stated and perfectly situated in the middle of bustling Ambleside. Cafes, restaurants and shops are on your doorstep and the location is perfect for exploring other areas of the lakes. The flat itself is very well decorated, with a lovely and cosy feel. It was perfectly clean and had all of the essentials and a nice fresh carton of milk left in the fridge. The raised shared courtyard above the property was perfect for our dog to use. We will definitely be staying here again!

Such a lovely apartment in a great location. We’ve loved it. Perfect location to start hikes or explore Ambleside. Had some tiny struggles to find it at first but that wasn’t a big issue. We’d love to come back. Thanks for everything.

The cottage is very clean and perfectly located in the centre of Ambleside. Seconds away from shops, bars and restaurants. We had a fantastic first visit to Ambleside and can’t wait to return.

We felt relaxed and at home in this comfortable and clean apartment. It is ideally located in Ambleside for the many pubs, restaurants and shops within walking distance.One star short of 5 because the kitchen air purifier is on from about 10-6pm and it’s a bit noisy. No on-site parking. You are provided with a permit which you can use at various car parks however we struggled to find space in the 3 closest ones and ended up circling the car park several times, competing with other people for a space. This was over the busy Easter weekend but I would imagine that other peak holiday periods will be the same.

Fab little spot, ideally located. Perfect for a couple planning a short stay. Castle Crag had everything we needed including a super comfy bed to rest in after a long walk up in the hills.

Castle Crag is in a fabulous location, close to every shop, restaurant and pub you could wish for. Only a short walk to Lake Windermere & the pier to catch the ferry. Great location for dog walkers and most establishments are dog friendly.

Castle Crag is the most perfect little cosy base for a lovely break. The property itself was very clean and very well equipped with everything you need. We were able to cook most nights and enjoyed a takeaway from the lucky dragon too which was only a 5 min walk from the property. The bed was very comfortable and after long days of walking it was lovely to put the fire on and relax in front of the TV. Having access to a washing machine was also very helpful. Apple pie bakery is a must!

Very cosy & Great location!

This apartment is smack bang in the middle of Ambleside, the perfect location for accessing any part of the lakes. Tescos is just down the road as well as a convenient picnic sandwich shop for quick packed lunches for long walks. We stayed for over a week and the apartment was extremely comfortable. We'll be staying here next time we come to the Lake District for sure! Thanks!

A cute and cosy little cottage in the heart of Ambleside with access to many local walks, delightful restaurants and local shops. The cottage is set back from the main road up a small slope. It’s generally very quiet but if you’re a light sleeper you may hear kicking out time at the local pubs on a Friday and Saturday night. We will recommend this cottage to others.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely area of Ambleside! Right next to multiple restaurants and pubs as well all the good shops. The cottage also came with a parking permit that could be used around the Lake District and allowed us to park our car for multiple days at no cost. Perfect for a couple’s getaway with a dog - would definitely stay again!

A perfect size and location for two people exploring the Lakes from Ambleside. Very clean and well put together. We were surprised at the lack of shower gel and shampoo in the shower. Could also have done with some more equipment in the kitchen and things like cooking oil. When we called for guidance with a small issue, everyone was really helpful.

A great little ground floor apartment, perfect for 2 people. Excellent location - couldn’t have been any closer to the centre if we’d tried! We will definitely be back.

This apartment was perfect for our stay in The Lakes. Everything we needed, it was there. We couldn’t have asked for a better apartment, and we’ll definitely be coming back here next year.

Lovely stay at castle crag with our little Dougie great location!

Superb location and great accomodation, ideal as a base in Ambleside as everything is within a couple of minutes walk. Facilities as promised on the description, as other guests have commented the shower is great, the bed comfy and the sette relaxing, what you need after a long day spent hiking/walking/sitting in a remote pub. We were able to leave the property and dine in a different restaurant/pub each evening, a word of advice though at the time of writing pre booking is essential and most places are not taking walk-ins and those that are fill up rapidly. If you want a good base to explore the Lakes area or just potter around Ambleside there cannot be many that are as convienient, or well equipped. We would be happy to return.

Perfect property for Lake District explorers! My wife and I spent our mini-moon here with our spaniels after our wedding. It's located on the very fringe of the main shopping street so close enough to everything but nice and quiet at night too. For two people, the apartment has everything you need and is the perfect size.

Very well positioned, surprisingly quiet considering it’s position right in the heart of things. Comfortable, homely and well laid out and furnished. We would come again without hesitation. A great break.

Exactly as described. Great location, had everything we needed. When I had questions, they responded almost immediately. A parking pass is provided and is so useful! We ate out for almost every meal and cannot fault any of the restaurants in town - all very good. There was a complimentary bottle of Prosecco there when we arrived which started our holiday very nicely. We will definitely stay again.

Perfect location in Ambleside really central but very quaint little flat/cottage with plenty of space and great facilities and very clean. Parking pass a bonus made things so much easier and welcome gift a lovely touch. Will definitely be back!

We have just come home from a stay in Castle Crag and we had a brilliant time. It’s perfectly placed in Ambleside which was a brilliant location for exploring the surrounding lakes. The accommodation was well presented, clean, cosy and stylish and had everything we needed. It included a parking pass for multiple car parks across the lakes which was very helpful. We would absolutely recommend this holiday cottage - thanks for having us.

We stayed here in October 2020 and it was so amazing we're booked to come back in June 2021! Lovely little cottage in the heart of the village with easy access to everything. Excellent amenities and the apartment was very clean and tidy and stylish - our favourite place to come back to after a long day of exploring the Lake District. We can't wait to come back!

Just come back from a great little stay at Castle Crag. It was the first holiday away with my 7months old dog too and he had a great time (and discovered he liked swimming in the lakes!). The cottage was a brilliant location, right in the heart of Ambleside. The bed was amazingly comfy, best nights sleep I’ve had for ages and the power shower was heavenly too. Everything was sparklingly clean and when we arrived there was a bottle of bubbly waiting for us too which was a lovely surprise. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Sara & Sharon

Had a wonderful stay here! The apartment was clean and cozy which was great after long days walking. They provides a guide which had local restaurants, walks and things to do. We stayed in a cooked most nights in the lovely kitchen then snuggled up on the couch. Everything is really easy to get to with lots to do in Ambleside.
