A Walker’s Paradise Set in The Heart of The Troutbeck Valley

Bessyboot is an adorable, romantic retreat for two set in the beautiful, historic village of Troutbeck. Named after a favourite walk of the owners in the Northern Lakes, this quality bolthole is the perfect choice for a getaway break throughout the year. Character features of exposed beams and flagged floors have been complimented with solid oak furnishings and pretty décor resulting in a peaceful, relaxing haven with stunning views of the local fell range from the private patio.

A walker’s paradise, Troutbeck offers walks for all ages and abilities and the slopes of Wansfell and other Wainwright’s can be reached on foot from the cottage. The village boasts two good country pubs, The Mortal Man and The Queen’s Head, both renowned for their local ales and excellent home-cooked fayre. The local shop is also a quaint tea room, fondly regarded as the geographical centre and heart of the community so do pop in during your visit, you’ll be sure of a warm welcome!

Bessy Boot cottage was so lovely, I felt very at home there on my own. As a solo traveller it's always lovely to find that special place and this was just that. Everything was great. I had my own little parking space, the bed extremely comfortable, great shower room & I really did have everything I needed in the cottage. It was a shame that I had so much wet weather whilst I was visiting but it didnt stop me getting out hiking (i just got wet). It was great to return to the cottage to dry off & make a cuppa. I would recommend Bessy Boot cottage to solo travellers or to couples. It's very cute.

Bessyboot is a perfect little bolthole for two, and is located in a beautiful part of the Lakes. The accommodation is warm, cozy and has everything you might need, including the most comfortable bed, especially welcome after a day's walking. The welcome cookies are a kind touch and the fluffy towels an added bonus. Would definitely recommend this lovely place in the most gorgeous surroundings.

The cottage was so cozy and very well-equipped, providing all the comforts of home. The surrounding scenery was stunning, with picturesque views of the countryside and easy access to a variety of hiking trails. The peaceful location made for a truly relaxing getaway. I must say a huge thank you for the biscuits - they were a lovely touch and much appreciated. I highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking to escape to the tranquility of nature!

I’ve stayed twice at Bessy Boot, and loved it both times. Troutbeck is a beautiful, peaceful village. I love walking to either of the pubs for a drink or dinner, or having a coffee at the Old Post office. The place feels like a home from home

Lovely accommodation and very well located within ambleside. Absolutely loved the bath, really good to relax in after a really long walk. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Apart from the bad weather we had a comfortable stay. Thank you 🙏

I absolutely loved my stay at Bessyboot. I went in search of somewhere to de-stress and switch off, and it was perfect. Really snug little place with underfloor heating in both kitchen/living room and bathroom. My morning coffee (on the sunny day!) sat on the little terrace area was a particular highlight, listening to the silence interspersed with sheep and the beck in the distance. Bliss. The Queen's Head pub, a short walk down the hill, was a great place for dinner too. All in all, perfect!

A very comfortable 2 person space. Good internet connections and media options. The Mortal Man Inn is just around the corner with great food and friendly staff. My advice would be to always park your vehicle behind the property as the road beside the front entrance is quite narrow. Weather permitting a visit to the church is a must. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

What a lovely find. Riverside house is situated in a beautiful setting, with walks from the door back door. Inside is spotless with an open fire, and as we visited late October we burnt all the logs, but it is easy enough to buy more, and the heating works well upstairs. The beds are comfy and there's enough showers, baths, toilets for our party of 5, the kitchen is very well equipped with every utensil you could wish for if you plan to self cater, and Ambleside is only a few mins drive away if you'd rather go out for an evening meal, but if you visit during school holidays booking in advance is definitely essential. Chester's by the River Cafe is also worth a visit, the variety of cakes, meals and breads is overwhelming, and the portions are very generous, I will miss the marmalade and ginger cake! Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and we would come back, communication with Michelle was very prompt when i asked about where to go to eat in Ambleside, all perfect, thank you.

We had to cut our stay short at Bessyboots due to an unfortunate incident ie leg break. Host communication was great facilities good Troutbeck area local pub nice and sorry we had to leave early. Assistance offered to vacate with injury but not required. I would recommend this home cottage to a couple. Parking a little walk to at rear but fine.

We stayed over August Bank Holiday and had a wonderful time. Really well located in the village and equidistant for the two pubs. Only very minor niggle was late check in time (4.00pm), 2.00/3.00 would have been better, and early check out (10.00am), which doesn't allow for much of a lie in before the pre departure tidy and exit. Would definitely recommend though.

Had a lovely week staying at Bessyboot. It was quite difficult to find at first, but with some help from the locals, we managed to find it eventually. The cottage itself was clean and spacious and a great location to get to lots of different towns.

My partner and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Bessyboot. Loved the accommodation; it created a relaxed atmosphere to come back to after a day of exploration. The Queen's Head (pub) down the road was wonderful, brilliant food, beer and the owners were a delight.

Property clean and tidy with good facilities in such a peaceful location-and the welcome pack(tea/coffee/sugar/milk/biscuits) was a really nice touch, something the 'bigger' holiday letting companies could learn from!

I had a WONDERFUL week at Bessyboot. I was very lucky with the weather as well so enjoyed having breakfast on the patio before walking of to wherever I fancied hiking that day. Lots of easy to intermediate hikes in the vicinity. The two pubs are also really friendly and have great food. I recommend stopping by the tea room in the village too. I hope to come back!

Michelle's Little Cottage is cozy and in a very quiet and tranquil location to escape the stress of big Cities. The atmosphere, around it for nature lovers is magic. It contains all the essentials you need for a short trip. The bed for two is very comfy and soft. It has got a parking space at the back however, if you want to download your belongings you can park for few minutes in the front door. There are two pubs round the corner to a walking distance. The food is good. For people that would like to disconnect completely is a key place However, for those that need internet connection the signal isn't good enough; we needed to use the Sat Nav in the Car as it was working all the time; however, the one on the phone lose signal all the time. it is because of the location, all around the Lakes. There are numerous attractions to visit and see. It was all a thumbs up for us. Highly recommendable.

After day of sightseeing have drink on patio or at pub, the mortal man only 100yrds down street doing a good selection of beer and good food.. cottage is Better equipped than advertised with iron, hair dryer and even a fresh pint of milk and tea coffee and sugar with a nice packet of biscuits on arrival..Dont worry about plug socket. There's about 30 of them no exaggeration. Freeview tv . Dvd playyer with some discs. We would book this again, should we return to area. Its a fantastic base to return to after exploring this stunning area of the UK

Excellent place, we’ll away from the crowds and is a very picturesque setting. Unless you’re a dedicated (and fit) walker you’ll need a car since you’re well up a very steep hillside - but by no means remote. All in all, highly recommended and a very enjoyable destination.

Stunning location - a stone's throw away from two lovely lakes. Enjoyed pub meals at the Mortal Man and the Queen's Head which are both a 5 minute walk away or less. Size was cosy for two people but rooms did look a little smaller than advertised.

We had a lovely stay (Lakes weather the usual unpredictable way). The cottage was everything we needed- small, cozy, warm, well equipped. Troutbeck is so lovely and well placed for exploring- from your doorstep or in terms of access to local towns. Would definitely recommend for an escape bolt hole.

Fantastic cottage, great location and well equipped! This place is everything you would want for your stay in the Lake District! The host was fantastic with any questions asked and so helpful! Although not right in the centre of the busier surrounding towns, it allows you to stay in the gorgeous small village of Troutbeck and from there it is only a small drive to them. Additionally, there are two lovely pubs restaurants which are only a couple minuets walk down the road. We frequented the Queen's Head more and they had fantastic food as well!
